We often forget the importance of being grateful. A person who is grateful for the things they have will value them, enjoy them, and will not waste energy seeking more. It is a shame that, often, we do not think about being thankful for what we have. Luckily, someone invented Christmas so that we can cultivate certain forgotten feelings: charity, hope, altruism, love, and gratitude, among others.
But today I am going to talk about the latter, because of its importance and how little it is valued.
6 keys to living with gratitude:
Do it every day:
Now that you know how important it is, do it consciously. Every day, be thankful for what you have and what you have achieved. You have to decide to do it intentionally, and you will see how good you feel.
Be aware of what you have:
A new day, a warm bed, a coffee, your partner, your children or your cat, and above all yourself. You already have many wonderful things in your life: look at them, be aware of them, and be thankful for them.
Stop focusing on what you do not have:
Spending all your energy thinking about what you do not have or what you are missing fills you with frustration. Shift the focus of your attention and think about what you do have; you will see how what you feel changes. You will replace frustration with satisfaction. If you look, there will always be something you do not have, there will always be something you are missing; if you focus only on this, you will never feel grateful or satisfied.
Cultivate your humility:
A humble person finds satisfaction in what they already have; they do not live driven by an incessant need to have more and more.
Look at those who have less:
Almost half of the world lives in dreadful conditions of food, housing, education, or health. Think about this and you will see how the desire to help others fills you. There is nothing more gratifying than someone who thanks you wholeheartedly for the help you have given them. Whoever has experienced this knows what I am talking about, and whoever has not should try it.
Find gratitude in difficulties:
It is easy to be grateful when everything is going well. But in the periods of our life when things are not going so well, we must also be grateful. Seeing the good in what we have, even in difficult moments, will help us overcome them, and it will also help us remember that something good can always be drawn from everything bad.
Practice gratitude daily and it will show you the path to happiness.
Merry Christmas
