**Did you know that the foundation of happiness and well-being is self-care?** Most of you answered yes.

So, **why don't we do it?** Is it really that hard? Or is it that we don't know how to do it?

In this post I **explain the 3 most important areas of self-care and their relationship with well-being**.

And don't miss the ending, which is the most important part: how to bring all this into our real life. Make this post the change you've been waiting for.

**Would you rather watch it on video?** Here I leave you a complete explanation about the 3 key areas of self-care and how to apply them in your life:

## The 3 essential areas of self-care: body, mind and soul

For me, the 3 fundamental areas of self-care are:

- BODY

- MIND

- SOUL

## Self-care of the body: nutrition and exercise without obsessions

This is the most well-known one. Nowadays everyone knows that **eating well and doing some exercise is essential if you want to have physical health. And I also add mental health**.

It's not about going on a diet; anyone who has dieted already knows what they're getting into. I always say it's no good eating well for a month and then stuffing yourself with pizza. That doesn't work!!!

**Nutrition has to be healthy for most of your life** and pizza for the weekend. A well-nourished body is fundamental; it's the fuel.

It's true that because of having a bad day at work you don't say: "ufff today I'm not brushing my teeth or taking a shower because I've had a bad day"?? So why do you say: "Today I'll have a beer or I won't go to the gym because I've had a bad day". And then the worst part of all is that you feel doubly bad, one for the bad day and two for not having done the right thing, which was to go to the gym.

I always say, if you have a bad day, put on your sneakers and go for a run. When you come back, whatever had soured your day will have evaporated. Don't take my word for it, check it out yourself.

## Self-care of the mind: how to manage your thoughts and emotions

**You are what you think**. Yes, yes, you are what you think. A thought is a neurotransmitter and it starts in your mind; in 20 seconds it has turned into a neuropeptide and it's already in your body in the form of an emotion. And emotions guide our behaviors. So **choose well what you think because it is the origin of everything**.

I already know it's not easy to control your mind; I do this for a living, so I know what I'm talking about. The fact that it's not easy doesn't mean it can't be done. If you have the tools and the motivation, you can.

The motivation will come from understanding that the key is to not believe everything you think (read the post "[the power of self-deception](/en/power-of-self-deception-discover-how-you-lie-to-yourself/)") and not to leave the mind on autopilot.

The tool is mindfulness. Keeping the mind in the present moment, neither past nor future. An excess of past equals depression and melancholy; an excess of future equals fear and anxiety. Present, only present.

At the end of the article I'll tell you how to do it….

## Self-care of the soul: energy, vibration and inner connection

I refer to **the soul as our energetic part**. Twenty years from now, everyone will take care of their energy the way they now take care of their body. But today it is the greatly neglected one.

It has always been considered the most esoteric part. The Cartesian scientific method has focused us on the material, but the arrival of quantum physics has shifted the focus toward energy and vibration.

Believing that we are not energy is like thinking that the Earth is flat; it makes no sense when the electroencephalogram measures brain waves and the electrocardiogram measures the electromagnetic waves of the heart.

So **as Tesla said "everything is energy and vibration"**.

If we are **high on energy**, we will feel **vital, eager to do things and with much more positive thoughts**. The predominant emotions will be joy, love, gratitude and well-being. On the contrary, if we are low, we will feel very negative, with no desire to do anything, and the predominant emotions will be anger, apathy, frustration and sorrow. **When we are full of energy we feel that our life is wonderful, and when we are low on energy our life seems horrible to us, and what has changed is not our life, it's us**.

That's why we must learn to recharge when we are low. When your phone is out of battery, what do you do? You plug it in, right?? Well, with ourselves we should do the same.

**Learn to listen to yourself, to know when you have run out of energy and what things recharge you**. And above all, don't pay any attention to yourself when you are at rock bottom; everything you think at that moment is a lie, the best thing is to put yourself in airplane mode. When I'm like that, I put on a no-thinking kind of movie, or I start cooking, or I go for a run as if the world were ending.

## How to integrate self-care into your daily life without complications

Now yes, a promise is a promise. **How to bring all this into my day-to-day without needing the day to have 30 hours!!!**

I have chosen things that are 3-in-1. That is, by doing 1 you are working on all 3 areas.

- **Physical exercise**: It doesn't matter what it is, running, walking, boxing, choose what you most enjoy doing, make it very easy for yourself, and remember, if you don't stop brushing your teeth for a week, don't you dare stop doing sport for a week. You have to put it on the same level of importance. No excuses.

- **Mindfulness:** practice the here and now anywhere and at any time. I'll make it this easy for you. If you're taking a shower, keep your mind in the present, in the shower; the mind will wander off because it's a jumpy one, you bring it back to the shower, and so on over and over until you finish. The same goes for hanging out the laundry, cooking, the commute to work… turn any daily routine into a moment to train your mind. Notice carefully how jumpy it is and how it takes you wherever it wants. Well then, with patience and perseverance, little by little you will manage to be the one in charge of it. You are not your mind, you are the one who must master it.

- **Nature:** whenever you can, go to the mountains, the beach or any outdoor place that has trees; you can take the opportunity to do sport, take a walk or simply sit down. Nature recharges us.

- **Breathe**: learn to breathe, to be aware of your breathing and to make it more paused and deep. Use the 2,2,4 technique. Inhale for two seconds, hold the air for two seconds and exhale for four.

[![benefits of self-care](/images/blog/2025/06/beneficios-del-autocuidado.webp)](/images/blog/2025/06/beneficios-del-autocuidado.jpg)

There is nothing here that you can't do without practically changing your routine. Now it's up to you, to whether you truly prioritize yourself. Only self-care can give you well-being; everything outside of you will never give you happiness because happiness begins within. Don't make any more excuses, start now and tell me how it went.
